SELLING YOUR PORSCHE
Weissach Autohaus will buy or sell your Porsche it’s fast and it’s easy.
What is your time worth? If you are planning on selling your Porsche yourself you’ll need to consider what your time is worth because it is probably going to take quite a bit longer to sell your car than you might expect. I like the rule of thumb that says when selling a Porsche privately allow 1 month for each $10,000 of value. For example, if you are selling a 1986 911 coupe valued at $20,000 plan on it taking you two months or more to sell. Selling a $70,000 turbo? Yep, ‘fraid so.
We are finding that an increasing number of Porsche sellers are asking Weissach Autohaus to purchase or sell their car rather than attempting to sell it on their own. These folks know that their time is worth more than the months it’s going to take to sell. Not to mention the aggravation of buyers who never show, the ones who say they’ll call back and don’t, and of course, the “wouldjatakes” (“would you take half of your asking price?”).
What is the Retail Market Value of your Porsche? As tough as this is to hear, your Porsche is worth what the market says that year and mileage will bring. And I’m afraid to report that most of the options that were purchased when the car was new and much of the maintenance and service work that was done has little effect on the car’s present value. Options help sell the car but don’t really change the value much, if at all. I also would not put too much credence in the Kelley Blue Books and NADA references. I can't speak for other makes and models but they sure don't reflect any relevant pricing when it comes to most Porsche cars. Just check the KBB or NADA pricing on a '96 C4S if you need further proof!
One of the best ways to check market pricing of your car is to visit Cars.com or Autotrader.com and see what the dealers are asking for similar cars with similar mileage. Car dealers are in business to sell cars and they will usually price realistically. I would skip over what the private sellers are asking for their cars because those cars are usually priced with too much emotional connection to the vehicle, something the psychologists call "Endowment Effect". Also, the highest price car listed by a dealer is not likely to be the correct market price since dealers can be crazy at times too. Look for a price somewhere in the middle and keep in mind that this is the “asking price” - the actual sell price will be a few thousand dollars less. The result of all this is the potential realistic retail market value of your Porsche if it was to be sold by a dealer. A private seller would usually struggle to sell the car at that same price since most prospective buyers would rather purchase an expensive item like a Porsche from a dealer.
Here’s how we buy your Porsche:
Call us and tell us about your car in detail. We will then do a little research and determine what we think we could sell it for, based on our estimate of retail market value. We then subtract out the costs that we invariably put into it, subtract out a set-aside for our potential warranty costs and finally subtract out the profit we would like to earn. The balance is the price we can pay for your car as described. If this price sounds reasonable to the seller we then ask to have the car brought in to our service center for an inspection, a test drive and a Carfax check, all done in about an hour. When all that is sorted we pay you by certified bank check and we are done - except that now you no longer own a Porsche and you should immediately start planning your next purchase of one!
Here’s how we sell your Porsche:
Weissach Autohaus introduces our Broker Services Program. It's our way off offering a broker service but doing it in a way that will please both buyer and seller. For instance, every broker car must complete a full PPI with Dan Jacobs, a document that will be shared with all prospective buyers. A buyer will have the confidence that a car offered by Weissach is a well understood entity. And a seller will have the confidence that they have placed their car with one of the most active and respected Porsche exclusive websites and showrooms in the country. In addition, the seller will be happy to know that we do all the work, from photos to listings to taking the calls to arranging for sound and secure payment . Not to mention additional services like accepting trade-ins and vehicle registrations that a private seller just can't offer. If you are considering brokering your car please give us a call.
